Greetings everyone. Dennis, thank you for taking the time to develop an interesting presentation and exposing me to other possible solutions. I appreciate that. Also, since mentioning that I have been creating some interesting internal solutions for our company, using Acrobat...I was going to provide a link to my work and show how Javascript can be utilyzed with these Acrobat PDF solutions. Obviously, one can merge the data from multiple PDFs , into a single spreadsheet for viewing (think, self created database).

However, I am in a bit of a bind with Visual Studio. Several times, a Windows Form has disappeared on me. Form1.Designer.vb and Form1.vb are still there but...Form1.vb[design] is not. Since then, I have rebuilt the application and now...when I double-click the button (or any control), the code window will not open. There is the Form1.vb view but I can't tell if that is the same module that usually opens when I double-click a control. So, there is a little struggle here and almost no one willing to reply with a sentence of acknowledment, for the people who do post here and believe in the mission of this organization. Perhaps, the VS download was corrupted and the error is beyond my ken.

Please allow me to be the definitive person that I am...it would be better to post my question on some other forum, where someone might have the integrity to admit they took some time getting used to the changes in VS2008, and share any similar experiences.

For several years, I have been borrowing tech books from the Central Library, in downtown Buffalo. Central, is a one-stop shop for all books technical. A couple years ago, while there were lots of good books (culminating in CCIE potential)...the cutting-edge material was lacking. No longer is that true.

Some excellent subject to investigate include; Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2008, Visual Basic Databases 2008, ad infinitum. The other day, I stumbled across Adobe LiveCycle on my computer at work. I turned a PDF...into an entry form that collected the XML data from around our network. It was definately cool. So, I went to the Library to do some research and I asked for help. They didn't have any books on LiveCycle, but as a result of my request...it was ordered. It is the Acrobate and LiveCycle Bible, 2009.

Great resource, good times.

Still a little new to all the possibilites that Visual Studio 2008 offers. That being said, what are the technological drawbacks of implementing one solution over another. For example, I read somehere that the postback on a Web form lasts up to about 20 minutes. So, connecting it to a SQL datasource could extend beyond a session time constraint. This is what I am lead to believe. Would someone verify this for me, please?

Also, this poses the question in my mind, what other pitfalls do I need to be aware when choosing one technology over another. MVC looks easy to implement. But, what are the drawbacks, as opposed to using a Web form? In which instance is one employed better than the other? All ideas, experience and training in this regard is appreciated.

From an email I received from Xceed a couple of days ago:

In 25 days from now( that is, 6/14) , the free Express Edition v3.1 you registered for will be updated to v3.2, renamed to Standard Edition, and priced at $300. The free Express Edition will no longer be offered to newcomers.

So if you want this, you'd need to get to 'http://www.xceed.com'>www.xceed.com by mid-June. btw, I haven't used it although I downloaded it because I have the Telerik tools.

Hi everyone, we just found out about the group, we are currently at the Waldham, Mass code camp. There are quite a number of exciting presentations being made. I hope as my first contribution to the group is to create an executive summary for the presentations we are sitting in on with all of the associated links, code samples, etc... See you all at the April meeting

Cheers,
